So I really want to clean the engine bay of My 95 accord its absolutely filthy. I told my father that I wanted to do this but he really advised against it. I was thinking that I could just disconnect the battery and then mask off the alternator and the distributor with bags and tape but would that work? I am afraid of fucking my car up! I know my car isn't the best in the world but still I love it so I want to take care of it. Is there any method anyone would recommend me doing this?

i think you could do that, but my worry is that you have so many cables that you'd have to cover up and all the electrical connections, because unless you use 100 percent pure water, you're bound to shorting something out, and plus, you might suck in water through the intake on accident, and it could hydrolock your car, effectively destroying your engine because it's trying to compress a noncompressible substance. i suggest you just simple green the spots that are the most visible to you, and just wipe it down. or if you're a bit more ambitious, you can remove the entire engine and drivetrain and just power wash the entire bay, and while you're at it, you could rebuild the stock engine or even swap an engine if you feel like it.

then just spray simple green on the surfaces that you see and maybe even on electrical connectors (assuming it doesn't conduct electricity) and just wipe down as best as you can.

I always used Purple Power (available at Walmart or your local auto parts store), but be careful. I've never had bad luck detailing engine bays, but I've heard people claim that it's caused problems. IMO as long as you're not spraying directly into things like the alternator or airbox for too long, it can't be any worse that whatever happened to get it dirty, or just driving it in heavy rain or goin' puddle splashin'.

If I end up pussin' out, is there any place I could go to get it done for money? I don't know if I'll do that though :/

Find a local detail shop and see if they'll do it I guess.

Any clue how much that would run for? I don't really know how long the whole process is.

Nope. I've only ever seen Mom and Pop style detail shops. Every where is going to be different. Prices can differ by more than $100 just in my town alone.
