Hey everyone, so I'm going to upgrade my i3-6100 and I'm having trouble deciding on which one to get. My motherboard is the ASRock H110M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1151 which according to this has a bios update to be able to use Kaby Lake. Now I know some of this are "k" and I can't OC with this MoBo, but I'm think I could reach out for one of them and then save up and in a couple of months upgrade into a Z170/Z270 MoBo.

The options are:

Core i5-7600k - $238

Core i5 7500 - $201

Core i5 - 6600k - $235

Core i5 - 6600 - $219

What do you guys think? Thank you for your opinions.

FYI: you need to actually do the BIOS update yourself, to be able to run the 7th gen CPU's. Just keep that in mind.

Anyways, yeah the K CPU's can OC, but also run a bit faster out of the box compared to the non-K variants. If you are seriously considering going for a Z board, I would go for the 7600K, otherwise I would just go for the 7500 (reason being that the Kaby lake CPU's already have software advantages like Netflix 4K support and it would suck to miss out on such features in the future). If you don't care about that, the 6th gen CPU's are nice too.

Something worth looking into is a used i7 6700(K). People may want to try to get rid of it now, with Ryzen coming and those 4 extra threads are nice.

Might as well go for the latest generation I'd say, so my vote goes to Kaby lake. Whether or not the k version is worth it is up to you.

Yeah I know, I'm not scared of updating BIOS, it's so easy this days.

Well, I don't really have a 4k monitor or anything, but for $3 I guess it would make sense to go with the newer one.

4K Netflix was just an example of companies software locking a feature because of the CPU you have, I was simply stating it might be worth it if you want to be safe now and in the future to be able to use that stuff.
