this is my build.

i play games on my pc.

i guess the most heavy game i play would be battlefield 1 on ultra. i get around 60 - 140fps (hops around)

my gpu hops into 50c to 60c when i play BF1 on ultra.

do i have any reason to overclock my cpu? what will i notice different? will it void my warranty? would my cpu not last as long if I over clock? Are the temps going to be hotter?

thanks for the help

1 - If you don't overclock it, you should instead get different non-overclockable parts to save money.

2 - Overclock will be 10% to 30% better performance at no extra cost and approaching zero risk.

it should be fine without overclocking to be honest, also i'd get a MSI GTX 1070 if you're going for a red build

Do a gentle OC like 4.4ghz or 4.5ghz without touching core voltage, it should provide a few extra frames in any game you play... the thing is you already got it all at hand to do the OC, I dont see the point why not now.

CPUs last at least 20 years, OCing one will decrease it in a few years.. but will you really be using it here in 16 years... if you were building I would just advise going with the locked i7 but like I said you got it all at hand already... why pay premium to be able to OC and not OC.

@Rohime It isnt free at all, he paid a premium for the unlocked CPU, cooler and a z170, he already invested alot of money and not Oc it at all would cause him to rather lose part of his investment, the OC equals free performance gains no longer is true since we got forced all these extra investments for it.

I actually don't care how my computer looks or sound :P and my case ended up being blue since red was out of stock but i prefer blue anyways

Do I over clock it via BIOS?
Am I going to get hotter temps?

It's too late for me to return my cpu / gpu and I dont want to go through that hassle

Yes, through BIOS

No, unless you increase the voltage (Vcore) you won't get higher temps

If you don't have any CPU bottleneck ATM (you don't) overclocking wont really give you that much of a performance boost if games. overclocking now is more of a fun thing to do, and see how much you can take your system. in a few years, when the 6700K gets more dated, then overclocking will give performance boosts. personally, I don't overclock until I will gain real world performance from doing so.

How do you know if you are getting bottlenecked ?

if your CPU usage is at 100% while gaming, or if any core in the CPU is at 100%.

I would overclock if your CPU ever reaches 85% or more on any core during real-world usage, but there are many people who would overclock even if they don't need the extra power.

If he already bought his list of items, then yes its free.  But i covered that off in my first line.

It is not free if he already paid for it, lol

should have gone with a b250 and 7700, better money management.

Somewhat, but depending on your cooling solution you may or may not notice much difference. In many cases you'll only really notice any difference in temperatures when you increase the core voltage. A good first step is just to see what clock speed you can get out of a low voltage like 1.2 V or so, since that's usually a pretty easy way to get 4.2-4.3 GHz on all cores at low-risk.

If you're going to overclock I'd recommend doing so in the BIOS. The automated overclocking offered by current motherboards usually does alright, but often doesn't fine-tune the results very well. Often you will end up with a higher voltage than your CPU really needs for the overclock.

Don't feel like you have to overclock at all. BF1 is rather CPU-sensitive, but if you're already managing 60-140 FPS, you're already doing pretty well and may not see much improvement by overclocking. Overclocking is a hobby... it's something to do for those of us who find it fun.
