What causes dead pixels?

Since i got my new monitor a month ago, 3 dead pixels have appeared. I checked the monitor the first day when it arrived and it had no dead pixels. Now it has 3, each one appeared on a different day. What could be causing this? Is this problem completely on the manufacturers or am i doing something wrong? The monitor has not been exposed to water btw.

Pixels dying on the monitor is as normal as light bulbs burning out.

Yes, it is annoying as hell when you notice it but it is not really something you can avoid. There are millions of them and some are bound to die in some time.

There are many things can cause dead pixel. Impact on the panel, manufacture defect, faulty controller(if they all on the same vertical line) and more.

If you didn't hit the monitor, then it probably not cause by you.

I get that, but i bought the monitor brand new, i've been using it for only a month and it already has 3 dead pixels and 1 stuck pixel. This is the XB271HU we're talking about, it's expensive as hell and a premium product shouldn't suffer from this issues. I'm returning it but i just wanted to know because i don't want this to happen to the second monitor.

Yeah. That's normal on those monitors due to very bad QC issues. Same goes for mine as it uses similar panel also made by AUO.

Its really hard to make sure all the pixel won't fail in 1st year from factory, specially IPS, seems to be more comment with bad pixel, since there are TONs of factor that can cause pixel when bad

I think they don't RMA because of dead pixel, but u can try it

check the warranty. Mine specified a % of pixels they will accept for RMA

It depends on how many defective pixels you have.
