Ok so I have a Plex/File server plugged via Ethernet directly into the back of my main desktop. I know this is not typically a good practice but because I am on the Universities network I have to be kinda sneaky. Anyways Windows wont detect the server. I have had it working in this exact config before but now after I had to restart the server for some upgrades Windows keeps giving me an unidentified network error. Please help...

Just get a router for your patience and the server and you can do whatever you want.

Not all school networks allow them. I know for a fact that the network in my dorms won't work with routers which is intentional and the CIO advises to use the method that the OP is using.

I had a similar issue when I had a pretty much identical setup. The bridged connection would only work if I booted the Linux machine first, then the Windows machine iirc.
