Samsung Gear 2 Smartwatch Not Connecting To Gear App

Hello,
 

I am trying to connect my Samsung Gear 2 Neo to my Android marshmallow 6.0.1 phone, but the Gear App within the Play Store is not detecting the watch at all. I can connect the watch to my phone's bluetooth but that only acts as a phone pass through.
