I'm not asking for the build I listed exactly. I can always switch it for a DDR3 compatible board.

There is no huge difference between DDR3 and DDR4. If you want a lot of RAM, get DDR3. If you want high powered memory and want to meet the regular requirements for AAA gaming, get DDR4. For DDR3, i'd get at least 16GB of RAM. While for DDR4, i'd get 8GB.

As for the brand of memory, it is your personal preference. It will depend on what motherboard you decide to have too. Good luck on your build!

I might want to upgrade this build in the (far) future.
Should I get DDR3 RAM (and switch to a DDR3 compatible motherboard) to save a little bit of money? Or is it recommended to get DDR4 memory?

If you are getting a CPU that supports DDR4 then get the DDR4.

Hang on, Skylake/Kaby Lake don't really support DDR3

did you already build that PC? Or are you about to build it? There's some issues man

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The best value CPU on the market supports DDR3 and DDR4 for about the same price. DDR4 memory is a tiny bit more expensive, but DDR3 LGA1151 motherboards are also a little more expensive.

Check in my signature for the perfect value build using that CPU at a $350 budget.

For one, why are you saying get 16gb if he goes ddr3 but only 8gb if he gets ddr4?

2 - " want to meet the regular requirements for AAA gaming " Whats that meant to mean? games don't care if theyre using ddr3 or ddr4 memory

Here's a better build, as you can see in the video below the locked i5 isn't much faster than the G4560, certainly not worth the price increase

You also have the wrong motherboard

The Z270 board gives you a direct path to the i7 7700K whenever you need to upgrade

How Soon is Soon? because Ryzen is launching soon and looks to be very competitive

No one should buy the 3GB 1060, and the 480 is currently surpassing the 1060 in overall performance, and would also save you money on a free-sync display

Left some room in the budget, you can get a bit nicer PSU, 8GB RX 480, or add an SSD most likely, maybe get the SSD later and upgrade the other components now, just partition your hard drive into like 20% and 80% partitions

RAM prices in Canada seem to suck

Also if you're going to buy windows don't buy an OEM key, probably avoid grey market keys

and you can just install windows 10 directly from Microsoft for free, you just lose personalization options

I agree, rightnow is kind of a bad time to build when amd's new line is right around the corner, almost certainly current stuff will drop slightly in price to save you some cash if you have the patience, and if you're persistent with building now obviously do not go with amd or DDR3 board. IMO.
