https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop-TL-SG1008P/dp/B00BP0SSAS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

atm i have my isp --> wireless router --> switch --> all the Ethernet devices

i want to do is isp --> POE Switch --> Switch--> all Ethernet devices/AP

the wireless router ,switch are on different floors . just to note

my question is

can i plug the POE switch where the wireless router is ,and the AP which im buying would be with all my Ethernet devices are since its much closer to the center of my house . right now the router is at one end of the house so it drops off a good amount from thick walls .

ive seen  that plugging in non POE devices on a line that has POE active can"nt"/will fry the ports , is this still true ?

or do i have to have the POE switch where my normal switch is or will it work like i have above

this is the AP im buying

not a problem at all. If the device isn't compabible with poe, there will be no power sent.

You don't need a poc switch, just get the injector, i think there is one incuded with that ap.

You still need a router.

for my isp its the modem/router combo . im planing on getting a second AP either i will get two tomorrow or later on thats why i decided to get the POE switch now . since its on sale where im buying it .

Id get the managed version. It lets you mess with some settings if you want, and is cheaper on amazon.

question since im not useing their switch

for UniFi Security Gateway  am i going to have a problem since i wont be using a Ubiquiti POE switch .

i didnt think so but i rather ask before i drop the 110$ for one .

i mean configuring it and the software side for the wan,LAN,wlan . i expect the wan,lan to be still grayed out but will the fuctions that they gateway allow still work , without a ubiquiti switch, im mainly intrested in the speedtest/firewall

Not necessarily - some switches will permanently put +48V down the line.

You can use the USG/USG Pro without EdgeMax or UniFi switches. However, I would not use the USG as it is a pretty terrible product at the moment. You've got very basic functionality in it and it has the tenancy to crash without cause. You can use the CLI to do some of the more complicated stuff however that will break when you install a firmware update.

I've heard the UniFi Security Gateway isn't any good, @Windspeed36?

Any reason you need the UniFi Gateway? There are very few reasons I can see needing one on a home network and this is coming from somebody with an over the top home network. :)

some of the features i saw  would be nice , having it speed test every 10mins ect .verizion pulls we have had no service issues and my internet will be down when i wake up  till i go in and reset the connection .

my idea went up in a poof of smoke . cant run the web side of it on my nas (centos ) for some reason says its running, i can get the portal to run but it doesn't see the AP and just locks up and crashes if i try to skip adding the AP in the initial setup.(windows doesn't do this if i skip adding it) so no USG atm for me .

i also posted this on their forums and got mixed answers i could use a non ubiquit switch but same as you said things can/will go bad with updates . or was told it would all work fine.

For a much cheaper solution I would get an RPi or similar device and run the UniFi controller software on it along with other scripts like SmokePing to get a true reporting of your network's uptime for your ISP.

EDIT: For me personally I use an old ODroid C1 and run UniFi controller, Observium, PiHole, and other network software on it.
