MSI or HP?Which is better?

sdw123

Hi..

I'm gonna buy a 6th gen (because they are going cheeeeap to clear stocks) laptop.I have 2 options. HP Envy 15 (i7,16GB,GTX950, slim, no ODD, backlit kb) and MSI GP Something. (i5,8GB,GTX 940, steelseries non backlit kb.) HP one is about $200 higher than the MSI.  What do you recommend? I really like the Slim, backlit kb and more memory on HP. But MSI seems have a long life. Please help me.

Thanks.

What prices? I can probably get you a Lenovo that's as good for $1049. Which i5/i7s? There's a big difference between the U and HQ series processors.

idk

both HQ . 6700 and 6300. Prices are surprisingly $800 - 1000.

I had a deal for a 7500U, 16GB DDR4, 256GB NVME, 950m for 1.05K delivered, but that's good. Dell Outlet is absolutely empty. I'd go for the HP, my Elitebook 2570p is still kicking ass 3 years later (except the CMOS battery dying, I have to open the keyboard and then replace a battery)

idk

Don't go for HP, their build quality is terrible now days (at least for the consumer stuff). Although the MSI's specs are a little lackluster. You're probably better off at that price point with an Inspiron 7559

Ooft, that's tough on a low end machine. HP's consumer stuff's shit when it comes to cooling. and so is some of the newer business stuff (ahem.. 820G1).

idk

MSI. Watch out for the 1060-1070 models with the under powered charging brick.

That's actually just Razer and Asus. LOL. MSI had underpowered charging bricks in the last gen, but it's fixed now.

The Envy is garbage. I get a bunch of them in my shop all the time for hardware issues. If you go HP, Omen and Spectre are the way to go. Otherwise, I'd go MSI. You get a longer manufacturer's warranty (2 years vs 1).

I have an MSI GS73VR Stealth with GTX1060. No issues with my charging brick.

Yeah, HP's new stuff isn't particularly good quality. However - in AU the manufacturer is legally bound for the product to last as long as it usually should and have a warranty - ie for phones 2 years, because they're on 2 year contracts. I'd assume you're legally allowed to argue a 3-4 year lifespan for a computer, even more?

idk

Really.. I guess MSI is the only choice then.Ehh but I liked HP so much.(specially for the aluminum chassis, and no Optical drive.)

The thing is a wanna be 12in Macbook. And not in a good way. At least Macbooks are optimized for their OS. This one is just a passively cooled PoS.
