My Blueberry Pie System

So I thought I'd show off my system, and how much it's changed since I built it almost a year ago. I've nicknamed it Blueberry Pie, as Raspberry Pie has become so popular now, and clearly I have a blue theme going. My bio has my parts all listed, but other than storage, the EVGA GTX 960 FTW ACX 2.0 4GB, and my i7-6700k, I have pretty much completely rebuilt this thing. My biggest contributions to the blue theme have been the Corsair ML140 and ML120 blue LED Fans, the Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 240 with the blue LED pump, the Corsair Vengeance blue LED 3000mhz 2x16GB RAM, and the custom metallic baby blue paint job I did on the plastic 'TUF exterior' of my Asus Z170 Sabretooth Mark 1 motherboard. If anyone has some suggestions or any questions feel free to ask!

 

Below is day 2 of this build. I had my system in a Thermaltake G41 Commander case, and I really loved the blue LED fan (how it all started). So I immediately bought blue electrical tape, and taped up the ugly power supply cables to make it match a bit more. But now looking back, oh boy did it ever look cheesy. I can't remember what Motherboard from Gigabyte I had (I remember it was DDR3) but Memory Express basically good willed it to me along with the RAM because they had a huge shipping delay on the Asus Z170 and the G.Skill RAM I had already ordered and paid for. So while I waited two weeks for my stuff to ship they extended their return policy from 7 to 30 days. So I could then return the motherboard and ram once my stuff arrived. I was really annoyed at the time because I needed this system up and running, but looking back it has extremely nice of Memory Express; they always have great customer service and are very knowledgeable.

So pretty soon after that first picture I had my Asus Z170 Sabretooth Mark 1 motherboard, and my G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 2133MHz 2x16GB RAM, which was the cheapest DDR4 32GB RAM on the market at the time. And for a couple months nothing else changed. Then when I starting to get into thermals and experimenting with overclocking. I quickly realized to get the overclock I wanted I would need to get an AIO liquid cooler, and more case fans. In my opinion the Cooler Master Hyper 212 is still the best heatsink though, as far as price to performance and reliability. But anyways, this upgrade gave me better air flow, and I was able to keep my CPU cool while getting a good stable overclock of 4.7GHz on my i7-6700k. This was done with the Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 240, two Corsair AF120 fans, and three Cooler Master Silencio PWM 120mm fans. Not to long after that there was a big sale on EVGA P2 power supplies, so I did some future proofing and got a 750W PSU for $75 off sticker price. That made a big difference as far as system appearance goes. I also ended up painting the plastic 'TUF exterior' on my motherboard really soon after this picture was taken.

Then we go to what has been changed recently, my system didn't change at all from about June until this past December 2016. It started with the case; I honestly am underwhelmed by the top of the line tempered glass cases out there currently. I was having difficulties pulling the trigger on a particular one. Some just were missing some good layouts, and others didn't have very many intake fan options and no room for more than two 3.5" hard drives. But I ended up stumbling on the Thermaltake F31 Suppressor. It wasn't tempered glass, but for already being on the market for 2 years, to me it seemed way ahead of its time. From sound suppressing foam, to all fans (besides rear exhaust) being filtered, four back hard drive mount options, optional PSU cover w/ SSD mounts, and good fan mounting options, I finally found a case I was really happy with. And now I hear a tempered glass version may be coming, so I may even get that when it becomes available! Soon after came the Corsair ML140 and ML120 fans. In my setup before I had two Corsair AF120 fans that were visible and 3 Cooler Master Silencio PWM 120mm intake fans at the front, cooling my rig. The Silencio fans were static pressure optimized but the AF120 fans were not, at the time of buying them I didn't know anything about fan types. But now my friends laugh at me because I'm an air flow and fan guru. So the ML fans were my number one choice because they are quieter than all my previous fans, they are both air flow and static pressure optimized, and they are the best looking blue led fans on the market (my opinion), that along with 5 years of warranty on them, I had one clear choice. They are expensive fans but I can definitely say it was worth it. I got them all on sale and it still cost me nearly $200. This made my system cooler than it was before, quieter, and like 100x sexier (look at the sparkling blue on the motherboard). Then we come to the RAM. Ever since I discovered Corsairs Vengeance LED RAM I was just fixated on buying it. And with pretty much everything being blue, and my red G.Skill RAM sticking out like a sore thumb, I pulled the trigger when they came up on sale on Newegg. And holy crap, it looks sexy.

For now I don't plan on any other upgrades, just my GPU when the new GTX 1080 Ti's come out. But as far as the blue theme goes I think I’m maxed out. I don't want any blue LED strips and I'm not big into RGB I just like one solid colour. But again, if someone has an idea don’t be afraid to suggest it.

 

I personally absolutely love the look of this build, it’s my favorite of all my computers. I’m very happy with the turn out. I also have a red themed ITX build that I will eventually post about as well (side by side it’s the light and dark side of the force), a massive open air red theme system, and I will also post about my experiences painting my motherboard. I hope those of you who have read this enjoyed so. And hopefully a few of you think my system looks cool too! Feel free to ask questions, I’ve learned a lot over the past year about computers in general as this is the 7th system I’ve built (I had so many more pictures to post but could only get three in)

No, I haven't actually really thought of that, but it's a good idea! I just looked and EVGA even sells full blue PSU cable sets! @deXxterlab97
