M.2 help 950 vs 960

Go to solution Solved by Ensho,

960 Evo.  Here is the Crystal Disk Mark of mine after the last firmware update and bios update for my motherboard:

Write speeds at times get close to 1800MB/s.  I have the 500gb model, so your writes won't be quite as fast with the 250gb model, but it will still be plenty fast.  The drive performs well and doesn't have any issues with thermal throttling..however I would recommend getting a PCIe x4 adapter card as doing so does reduce heat output as it gets better airflow.  I have mine paired with the Asus Mini Hyper M.2 PCIe Adapter.  Temp idles at 31c and gets around 50c under full load.  If I install it on the mobo, it idles around 38c and under full load goes into the mid to upper 50s...close to 60c.

which one is better Samsung 250GB 960 EVO NVMe M.2 vs Samsung 850 EVO 120GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive?

129$ vs 112$

but you question is 960 vs 850

which is which?

If based on your question

the 960 Evo 250GB will be my choice

no fight here

The 960 is faster and has more capacity? isn't it a no-brainer?

120GB SSDs are generally not worth it unless you're very specificly aiming at a very low amount of used storage.

No idea why these prices would be even comparable.... the 850 is a AHCI based drive (basically, limited to 6Gbps). the 960 EVO is the second fastest M.2 drive on the market today (next to the 960 pro) and is an NVME drive (which doesn't really have a limit other than its own functional speeds, which approach 30Gbps)
