I have a i7 930 2.8ghz. I just upgraded from a gtx 570 with 4gb ram to a gtx 1050ti with 8gb 1866mhz. I've seen a huge improvement with one of the games I wish to play, h1z1, that is to say I can actually run it now.

Most other games seem fine but I still get just under 60 fps with h1z1 unless I reduce the render range to 500, even then it still dips in and out of my desired above 60 fps target. This is a pain because you have to increase the render range again, between matches, to 1500 when you parachute in so you can see where to land.

I've run some heat tests while h1z1 is running and my cpu turbos a bit past 2.8ghz, staying just under 70 degrees celsius with 69 degrees being the highest reading I had over an hour or so play session.

I'm wondering if it is worth overclocking my cpu to try and get the fps I want for this game and still keep my cpu within a safe temperature to prolong its lifespan as much as possible.

Not sure if this is worth mentioning but I was having terrible loading times, as well as big fps drops when loading things in around me, whenever I moved to a new area. I received the ram after the gpu, when I did this increased my performance in this area tenfold, although I think I probably have enough now as it doesn't seem to be filling up as I play. Maybe time to crank that cpu?

Longevity is very important to me and I believe above 70 degrees isn't some where you want to go without risking shortening the lifespan of your cpu. If it is reaching 69 already should I just leave it as it is?

Any advice would be really helpful.

I'm not looking to purchase anything else. I'm just very worried about attempting something like this as I've never done it before.

I'd suggest cleaning out your heatsink and fan and maybe even replacing it before trying OC. if your proc is already running at 70c, try overclocking and keep an eye on the temps - if they go over 85 go back

idk

Just before I put the new parts in I tried to clean as much dust out of the machine as I could. Should be about as dust free as it can be. Perhaps best not to bother? It turbos up to 3.2ghz. Would 0.4ghz for example make much of a difference for what I want it to?

I managed to push my 4670K from 3.7 to 4.6, and it made a 1000 passmark difference from 7400 to 8400. I'd still say go Xeon since it's insanely cheap (we're talking $50 ish here) for significantly better performance.

idk
