My advice is don't get it. I used it on the a6000 and performance was poor at best and varied for each lens. I have what looks like the 1rst one but don't know what the difference between the 2 is. My best guess is its a newer firmware which might improve performance over the other one.

I should also mention AF didn't work at all when I tested the a7ii.

Well im going to try it, and because its amazon if it doesnt work well, i can return it easily. the a6000 isnt the best at focusing anyway, i want to see how good it is on a really good focusing camera like the a6300. It also depends on the lenses you use. i plan to be using them with EF-S STM lenses, which are basically the best focusing canon lenses on the market. Also, the metabones is WAYY too expensive, and the sigma mc11 doesnt work for EF-S

The reason its expensive is that it will actually work(most of the time, even the metabones isn't entirely reliable), the commlite on the other hand would tak 5-10 seconds to focus and half the time it wouldn't even lock and rather hunt for focus indefinitely. Worse still, once it did focus, it wasn't necessarily accurate, in many instances, focus was a bit off and you couldn't tell until you looked at the picture on a pc afterwards.

Also, the metabone's firmware is user upgradeable, which means there is hope for it to work better with a firmware update, especially on a new camera or lens in case you upgrade, unlike the commlite.

If you want to go with it do so, in my experience however, its not worth it.

Also, STM lenses are not the best focusing Canon lenses in the market, its just a cheaper, more silent motor than USM, they are better for video, but that's because they are inaudible. AF performance varies from lens to lens even on the same body. e.g. my 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 performs noticeably worse than my 24-105L.  The reason some USM lenses appear to be worse at focusing is that they are older. The EF 50mm f1.4 for instance hasn't been upgraded since 1993!

May I ask what lenses you are trying to adapt? I can see the point of an adapter if you have a collection of expensive lenses already or if there straight up isn't a lens in the Sony range that covers your need, however if that is not the case, you are better off using native lenses anyway.

They look like the same product, just sold by different sellers on Amazon hence the difference in prices.  A product photo in the second link has a photo of the adapter with the label AEF-MFT which I assume means Canon EF mount to MFT adapter.

ahh right. well the comments and description dont seem to indicate that its mft, ill probably go for the 1st one if its prime anyway. it just seems more legit.

Well, ive heard good things about the commlite depending on your lens and body. and i cant justify £400 on a metabones, £150 would be the max i would consider, even that is really expensive for me.

STM lenses are smoother than USM aswell... however i think USM is sometimes faster and more accurate. Yeah i would agree STM for video and USM for photo.

Im trying to adapt 3 lenses (possibly 4)

the main ones i want to get working are

EF-S 10-18 STM IS

EF-S 55-250 STM IS

EF 50 1.8 STM

and having the

EF-S 18-55 IS II

to work would be nice, but i highly doubt it, as even on my 650d its the loudest and crappiest thing alive. It hunts and isnt very fast.

I would probably get a sony a6300 with kit lens (or buy the 16-50 separately used or something cheap), to replace the canon 18-55.

Im switching from Canon 650d to sony a6300.

The reason i want them to work is, all sony's lenses are super expensive. the 10-18 costs £500+ and so on. also i already have them, and selling them and getting sony equivalents would be REALLY expensive total. I cant afford that.

I can use manual focus, as i mostly do video, and i currently always manual focus for video on my 650d.

Have you considered buying the A6300 and a Sony LA-E3 Adapter, and adapting A-mount glass? It is said to work very well on the A6300. And I have seen several A-mount lenses that would be interesting as the 16-50 f/2.8 or the Sigma 50 1.4 Art

The adapter only costs 200US too so its a good deal imo.

And if you are moving system completley it makes more sense to invest in the system or at least in adapting a mount as its made by sony it will most likley focus a lot better than other brands.

How much are you going to pay for the a6300?

Do you use your 55-250 a lot?

Have you considered going with another Canon DSLR or perhaps the new m5? or is it because of the a6300's 4k capability?

1. im not sure, im going to test it by going into a shop first. probably around the £700 area on ebay.

2. Yes a fair bit, as thats the only tele lens i got.

3. No, i want the 4k, slow mo, really good low light of the sony.

All I can do as an owner of the commlite AF adapter is advise against its purchase.

My proposition would for you to sell everything you have from Canon and go for a deal with a sony a7ii and 24-70mm+ 50mm f1.8, which basically cover everything you have apart from the tele. That doesn't work however if you must absolutely record in 4k, I'm not sure about slo-mo. Jessops had some pretty good deals like this a while back, not sure if they still do.

my experience with adapting Canon lenses has been horrible thus far and I wouldn't do it unless I already had a collection of EF lenses worth over £2000, and that is not your predicament.

If you are looking for a new camera, stay within Canon's ecosystem, if you choose to go over to Sony, move your entire kit over. Don't try the middle ground, and if you do, certainly don't expect a great experience if you don't shell out on the metabones, which considering the price difference between lenses isn't that bad, provided it works as well as people claim, because I know for a fact most AF features of the Sony don't really work when adapting.

a7ii defeats the point of me switching to sony. im gonna try the commlite, then maybe if its really bad get the metabones. i will mostly be doing manual focus anyway.

I'd try to get the adapter first and try it with my lenses at a store on a camera. See if it works at all, because if not, you are better off spending £10 on an ebay non AF adapter. Order it off amazon, try it out and then return it if performance is so poor its unacceptable.

If you live in Glasgow I could just give you mine to test if you wish.

That's EXACTLY what I plan to do. I still would want aperture control and for IS to work. So the commlite is probably still wht I need. I plan to buy the adapter from Amazon tomorrow on prime, and go to Calumet cameras or park cameras and try it out, as both shops said they have it on display and I could try it. And then I'll return it cos Amazon, and when I buy me the Sony (if I do based on this result) rebuy the commlite or get another adapter.

Unfortunately I live in London, but thanks for the offer anyway.

Aperture should work, it didn't work on my 17-40mm on an a7ii when I tested it, but that at least worked on the a6000, I'm not sure about the IS though. it should theoretically work, if not you may be able to get a used a6500 and use IBIS off ebay, or possibly an a7s? That would record in 4k and I believe does have IBIS, although I'm not sure its worth it with the a7ii series out, I found it much better when tested.

Most of my lenses are officially supported by commlite which means that is and aperture should work. A6500s used are still fairly rare and really expensive. It would probably benefit me more to put that money towards a gimbal. A7s doesn't do 4k, only the mark 2 has 4k and ibis. Mark one doesn't. Also it's full frame only for 4k which means that my aps c lenses won't work in 4k.

no it isnt. its nearly the same price as native e mount, factor in the adapter too.

FYI, Sigma makes a Canon EF to Sony E mount adapter that's meant to work well with their own Sigma lenses for Canon mount.  The adapter is relatively cheap.

Yeah I know. But it doesn't work on my ef-s lenses. And it's not very cheap. It's reasonable compared to the metabones, but not Very Cheap.

Yeah I corrected myself about the price.  It's only meant to be used with Sigma's own lenses.

To my knowledge sigma do make several lenses which are not FF compatible, such as the 18-35 art, a great lens, that won't work as far as I'm aware on a FF sensor. That said, shouldn't the adapter work? unless they use the EF mount but make only APS-C sized lenses...
