AV receiver

Go to solution Solved by ChuckMaurice,

I have the Yamaha RX-V477 (2014 equivalent of the V479), it's a bit overkill for what I do but I absolutely love it. It has Ethernet/Wifi, Spotify streaming from phone/desktop app (with volume sync), 4K passthrough, "pure direct" mode with dedicated DAC for when you want to listen to an authentic source...

The thing that sold me :

- YPAO, good auto-calibration of speakers' distance, level, reverb...

- The improved music sensation compared to other brands more focused on movie experience, as 80% of the time it's for listening to music.

If like me you're more into music, go for the RX-V479. If you favour movie experience, maybe the Onkyo or the Pioneer will be better. I haven't tried any Denon, and I wouldn't recommand any Sony or Harman-Kardon which are cheaper brands on A/V receivers.

Hey peoples.

I'm currently looking for a new AV Receiver that can do the following things:

- At least 5.1

- 4k60 passthrough with hdcp2.2 for 4k Bluray

- at least 4 HDMI Ports

- Can directly stream spotify or receive a spotify stream from my phone

- max. 350€ (see link below)

- Wifi would be cool

- Doesn't suck

- Is in this list because i have a 250€ giftcode there:

Holy Shit that was a long link but click here

i'm leaning towards the Yamaha V479 but i don't know sh*t about Receivers actually.

Would be nice if any1 could help me out here!

Thanks a bunch

EDIT: Initially i wanted the Denon 1300W or 1100W but apparently it's not available in the shitty shop. Should i try to trade my giftcode for one of These?

Check the Onkyo's. They are great. On the link you can see their current line up, but in general you can say that last years models or before that have a bit lower number. So their 300 series would be like 372 or maybe 363. Think like that. So you can find older models online that are cheaper then this years line up, but has all you need.

Onkyo current receivers

No matter what brand and type you get, make sure that the HDMI spec has 2.0 then atleast. That is required for 4k 60Hz. Also WIfi is not on all cheaper range models, but bluetooth is these days.

Media markt is not to most extensive on this area (atleast here in NL), so you might indeed want to look at more expanded hifi stores. Sadly the better quality AC receivers are expensive toys, so your mentioned price range might mean that you have to compromise on the wifi maybe... But don't know all that is out there, so someone else could have good suggestions.

I asume btw you already have the boxes and sub and only need a receiver.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

@FloRolf The only issue with the 479 is that not all of its HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 compatible. From pictures, it looks like only one HDMI supports this function. Just something to keep in mind. Otherwise the entry level Yamaha receivers are quite reasonable. Very little distortion with high quality/high sensitivity speakers. I use the 377 regularly in my living room. It's very easy to use.

The more you spend on receivers, the more features and control the unit gives you over your sound and video. However, that's not always a good thing if you don't know what you're doing.

Mh you are right, only one of them is hdcp2.2 but I guess I only need one anyways for the 4k bluray player (aka Xbox one s).

Or do I need it for anything else?

So I just bought the thing because it was discounted to exactly 250€ so it cost me basically nothing :P

I don't know if you need more or not. Definitely not at this time, but *eventually* all devices will make use of HDCP 2.2, but it will be many, many years. You will probably be looking for an upgrade in 5 years anyway. I wouldn't fret over it. I don't know what you're planning on watching in 4k and HDR at 60fps anyway ;)

True Yeah :D

At first I'll only connect two speakers but I want to build a 5.1 system down the line (months, not years :P)

And 4k60 is needed for when I connect my Pc which I'll do from time to time.
