Hey guys. Most of you are likely purely gamers and find 16:9 and ultrawides to be the obvious way forward. Great! However some people like me are stuck in the past and prefer a more narrow aspect ratio.

For years the sweet spot was 4:3 and then later became 16:10 as flat panels took over. You've probably used a 16:10 monitor in fact! Most Apple computers used to be 16:10 (1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 2560x1600) and many others too. Lenovo seemed to cling to 4:3 a bit longer.

I recently got to play some higher refresh monitors, 144hz and some freesync ( I know, I know), and I somewhat immediately became dissatisfied by my 60hz 1920x1200 panel.

So from the main brands I haven't seen anything come up that was 16:10 and... well... modern. I know some of the lesser known Korean brands can surprise with a nice panel so I was wondering if any of you have seen a worthy successor in the 16:10 aspect ratio?

Or just want to talk about the obvious superiority of 16:10.

or did you mean those are hard to comeby nowadays

I was hoping for a panel that could do maybe 75Hz. I think it wasn't possible over VGA but I was hoping someone out there would throw a display port on a panel and let me overclock it.

I meant that there are almost no 16:10 monitors nowadays and that I don't think there are any above 60Hz.

Maybe there are some that OC well enough though.

Wouldn't say 16:10 is highly adopted at all, the last time I saw a 2560x1600 monitor was quite some time ago. The industry is favouring ultrawide and high refresh 1440p panels. I doubt that 16:10 monitors with G-Sync or Freesync and a decent refresh rate from a reputable brand will become a thing.

All pre-5k iMacs were 16:10 and AFAIK all MacBooks are 16:10. The panels are out there,

I guess I'm just having trouble letting the dream die.

Yeah, I wouldn't count on seeing anything like what you want unless it is Korean.

There are a handful of old 120 Hz monitors that were produced back when 16:10 was still the standard, with a resolution of 1680×1050. I don't know of any higher resolution ones.
