Hello everyone, I just found a razer gaming pc with two graphics cards. From what I can tell, its missing a power supply, and a hard drive. I have never build a computer before but I like the idea and watch a lot of people build them. I am also a mac user and have little experience with windows. I got it for free and the guy who gaved it to me said everything else worked and told me the model information was inside. The computer does look old and a bit odd. I would like help identifying as much information as possible about the system and the year that it was produced. I am a college student and only have $100 to spend on components. Also, can somebody tell me if its worth it to restore it to play games like GTAV and other modern titles?IMG_20170121_143532.jpgIMG_20170121_143604.jpgIMG_20170121_143513.jpgIMG_20170121_151809.jpg

No, build something new. My guess is that it's a C2Q Q6600 with 4gb of RAM and a GTX 295.

Video card is > 4 generations out of date.

Those flat ribbon cables are IDE, a standard probably last used around 2005. You're not finding new hard drives with decent capacities with those. This also means you can't use sata on this motherboard.

That time I saved Linus' WiFi pass from appearing on YouTube:

The motherboard also has SATA ports, it looks like an Nvidia nforce 680i sli board.

Not a huge motherboard connaiseur from pre-Z87 times. So don't know the specific motherboard that came with IDE and Sata :).

Wouldn't those be Sata Gen 1 or 2 at max?

Sata 2, but tbh that's not really an issue....even for an SSD. The reason why you really want an SSD is for the significantly lower latency than an HDD, and even Sata 1 will show that benefit. The thing you lose is higher read/write speeds -- but tbh, those aren't super critical for most use cases.

And even Sata 1 is enough for most HDDs even in terms of read/write speeds.

i would just save up and buy a new one - but you could sell this computer on craigslist for a hundred or 2 hundred and see if anyone bites - ps - adding gaming computer with a gaming graphics card and gaming case to the description will up the value of the computer

Lets stick a bunch of Razer stickers to it, gonna make it go faster for sure xD
Just for the amount of dust accumulated on it I would say you should just get brand new stuff, I don't know your income however saving up some money for a couple months and then buy a brand new pc, with all clean and freshy is 100% worth the hard work; buying an used part is not bad, if you can find good deals, my point is when you start seen the hardware is from the past decade it might be a good time to retire it.
