I would like to use 2 300GB, 10,000rpm or 15,000rpm for use as a scratch disk for photoshop since I assume I would kill a SSD way too quickly. Is there a better solution?

Use a ssd, it will be much faster and last much longer.

 

SSDS don't die  quickly.

But I would be constantly writing on it with lots of photos being edited. I figured SSD would expire prematurely with the constant writing.

those ssds can handle lots more writes than your think. Get someting like a 850 evo. You can't kill it if you tried. You can write to it for years and its fine.https://techreport.com/review/27909/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-theyre-all-dead/2

Thanks, SSD was already my preference for ease of use and setup for my level of knowledge, plus I already own an 850. Just thought I could put my SAS drives to good use while still having reliability without worrying killing SSd's one after another. Thanks again.

I have over 20TB written to an older Samsung 840 Evo 1TB and still have all the reserve bits available.

 

I would certainly go SSD over SAS (I have a server with 4x 1.2TB 10k sas drives).
