I recently got a modmic to use with my headset and at first I had to crank everything up in order for it to even pick me up when I was practically yelling so I got a Zx card from Sound Blaster and it fixed most of my issues besides the sound being very muffled and quiet although it now picks up my voice when I speak in a normal tone, just muffled as I said above. Anyone know of any fixes or did I just get a bad unit?

The modmic does have a really low gain, that's why I stopped using it.

Not sure why it sounds muffled for you, maybe you have it the wrong way around? The mic opening is only on one side of the boom.

I have the side with the microphone pointed towards my face so I'm pretty sure its facing the right way

Make sure your sound card software isn't EQing anything.
