I would not put anything above RX470 in a system that has unknown PSU. Firstly upgrade your PSU to something more reliable

If it's not a trustworthy brand, and since he would be getting, most likely, a $200 or more gpu, he would want a better psu, because of the watts on his psu and the sketchiness of the brand.

🙂

Yeah you are going to want to get a 600w-700w psu from evga or bequiet or corsair that will sustain your system for a long time to come.  I recommend these:

and these especially:

I've heard of Codegen, and it wasn't under positive circumstances.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/psus/2014/06/20/550w-650w-psu-roundup/5

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5791/codegen-pcase-460w-low-price-poor-quality/4

It should be pointed out that quality can vary wildly between different models, even from the same company, and it's quite possible Codegen has a product or two that meets some reasonable standard of performance. But in practically every Codegen review I find, the first paragraph of the conclusion seems to be a lecture about why you should never buy a Codegen PSU.

I would definitely recommend a PSU upgrade before considering a GTX 1070 or 1080. In both reviews linked above, the unit began to fail at only 50% load.
