Vive or rift with touch controllers

Go to solution Solved by commandlion,

Personally, I like the vive because I can set up my lighthouses wherever and forget about them. They just need power, no computer connection, so they don't use up space on my desk or precious USB ports. I just 3M Command Strip velcro them to my dorm walls so it's relatively easy to move the whole setup to my parents house or other places when I want to. I have not tried the oculus touch controllers, but I don't mind the vive controllers at all, and the Vive tracking system is more flexible for larger spaces. If you find yourself somewhere with a large open space, the ability to set up room scale at like shockingly large sizes is really cool. I set up a 4mx3m space in a room at my work at one point, and it was soooo awesome. Also keep in mind that while the vive package is more expensive than the rift, the touch controllers add cost.

I have a vive, so obviously I'm biased towards it, but I the only reason I'd consider getting a rift is for the exclusive titles, but:

1. I dislike platform exclusives in general

2. ReVive works pretty well on stuff like Super Hot.

Either way, competition is a good thing. I can't wait for the wireless transmitter and audio head strap HTC showed off at CES to come out.

What VR should I get vive or rift with touch controllers the price doesnt matter to me, my pc can handle vr the specs by the time I get it will be a 4790k overclocked to 4.8, 32gb of ddr3 ram 1600mhz, gtx 1070 or 1070 sli and a 850w rm corsair power supply pls let me know what I should get and please explain your reasoning

I would say they're both good. At the behest of @Sakkura, I tried the Rift and found it to be quite pleasant for a seated position, though I don't know how well the motion controllers work yet as I don't own a Rift. As for the Vive, I am very happy with it. I use it mainly for horror games and simulation racing with the Logitech set. I like quite a few of the mindless "block the energy balls" games that are on Steam as it is a pretty tough workout after 40-50 minutes.

Edit: Don't do SLI. Very few VR games (I known of none) use SLI technology.

The motion controllers for the Rift work really well. They are at least a small step above the already excellent Vive controllers. Valve is working on their next-gen "knuckles" controller which looks like it will be even more amazing. As for other upgrades, wireless kits are on the way for both headsets, but the Vive has a head start.

For room scale setups, some people have been running into issues with the tracking for the Rift. But mostly it works well. The Vive does definitely have an advantage in simplicity if you have a lot of room for VR though.

It's really cool that we have two excellent VR headsets available for PC. You can't really go wrong with either one, regardless of what the haters/fanboys say.
