My friend has a GTX1080 FTW runs great he asked me I'm if he added his old GTX 970 through SLI would it make performance any better??

Lime

You can only use SLI with the exact same card.

So a 1080 and a 970 obviously wouldn't work at all.

Here's to the crazy ones...

it woudlnt make performance better. SLI doesnt combine vRam, so you would be stuck with the graphics card that has the lowest amount of Vram. I think the 970 has 3.5GB/4GB. cant remember

Aside from them not being able to enable SLI at all to begin with since they're not the same GPU at all.

Isn't that how Crossfire works? I know that SLI only supports the same model card.

AMD GPUs are cooler in that way.

But really. The Sapphire one I have is beautiful (the reference design is not bad either), and it helps heat up the room - quite useful these days.

You can crossfire cards that aren't the same but are similar. For example you can crossfire an r9 290 with an r9 390x (I think). However, you can't crossfire two completely different cards (you can't crossfire an rx 480 with a fury x or something like that).

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

isnt how what crossfire works? i dont think it matters. whatever the min vRam is between cards, thats your max vRam amount.

What you were talking about was crossfire. SLI doesn't combine VRAM because it can't.

You need the exact same card with the same amount of VRAM.
