Mouse jitter for optical mouse

I fix computers for a living and sometimes I need to keep computers awake so I can watch them. Sometimes I can't run any programs because the hard drive is failing and it makes life difficult.

There must exist some kind of pattern that makes your mouse jitter slightly, does anyone know how?

Just change the settings to not have the system go to sleep or turn off the display.
