You need a wired controller. The wireless controller doesn't work.

You're misreading but the post is also sorta wrong so I can see how it is misread.  The user says it doesn't work on a wireless 360 pad using the Charge and Play Kit, which is a mostly power only USB connector for the wireless 360 gamepad.  I say 'Mostly' because it can somehow assist the controller in syncing to a specific device when the controller is dealing with confusion but it doesn't allow it to work as a controller.  It was never designed for this, it was designed to supply direct power to a 360 wireless controller which either has dead AA batteries or needs to recharge it's lithium ion battery packs, with power, any wireless 360 controller can just wirelessly link to the 360 anyway.  So it's not that 'it doesn't work' it's that 'that's not what that is for'.

However with a proper Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver dongle, the headset does work.  It's even in the official documentation.

The Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows lets you connect up to four wireless headsets and four wireless controllers to a PC running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack (SP2) or a later version of Windows.

Hey guys,

So this might be a really stupid question, but I would like to know the answer to it before I buy an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller.

I found the package (controller + PC adapter) and I noticed that the controller has a 3.5mm jack. I have a pair of Sennheiser headphones and I was wondering: If I plug the headphones in the controller, will they work while the controller is wirelessly connected to my PC?

Thanks a lot in advance!

The Xbox 360 controller uses a 2.5mm jack if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty certain it can work with the Xbox One controller, but not the 360, as it does not use the standard 3.5mm jack. You may be able to convert from 2.5mm to 3.5mm, but I'm not sure if it would work.

Well, my headset is wired, not wireless, so I had a bit of trouble with the wording in the official documentation. :) Just wanted to make sure. But I guess the problem is now that the 360 controller that I can buy is actually fitted with a 2.5 mm jack, which is retarded. I guess I'll have to wait for either more money to buy the Xbox One controller, or wait for a new Xbox 360 controller with a 3.5mm jack to be launched.

Cheers!

Pretty sure that no new 360 controller will ever be launched.  Why not a 3.5 to 2.5.adaptor?  I'm sure adapters were nadr specifically for the 360.

Well, I can't buy an adapter because I can't find one for sale in my country. Secondly, I can't buy from Amazon since an adapter is like $2-3 and the shipping costs would pretty much triple the final price.
