So I need some help, my wifi signal is terrible in my house and I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. I have a Netgear C3000-100NAS with a Linksys EA6100 AC1200 router connected to it. I bought the Linksys about a year ago because the range on the Netgear was so bad that you needed a direct line of sight in order to have a decent connection. Initially, after I bought the Linksys router the range was amazing and I could get a wifi signal everywhere in my house. However, strangely enough, the range on that router has become worse and worse, to the point where the signal has trouble getting through more than one wall (my walls are normal drywall). Additionally, for some reason both of the routers have issues where the wifi randomly stops working and turning the routers on and off doesn't fix it. I determined it is not my ISP's fault because I have my server and my computer wired to the Netgear with a network switch and they never have problems. I've tried resetting the Linksys and not using it for a few days but the range is still bad. Also, I determined that the Linksys wasn't overheating or anything.

I originally wanted to buy a mesh router system or a new router but those things are way too expensive. However I saw that those Ubiquiti Unifi access points were relatively cheap and had excellent range. I'm thinking of buying a few of these: https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-UAP-AC-LITE/dp/B017MD6CHM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484586766&sr=8-2&keywords=ubiquiti+ac. I have a few questions though, can I connect it to my Netgear router/modem via Ethernet and will it work as an access point for that router or can they wirelessly connect? Also, how many do I need for my house (I live in a single family house, around 2600 square feet, 3 floors)? Also, do i need a computer constantly on to control the access points?

Do you want to buy a new router and what is your budget?

I have around $200 to spend and I'm not sure if i want to replace the router as I think buying the access points would be cheaper

Have you confirmed that the Modem isn't broken? Even if your router is amazing; having a broken modem wouldn't do any good.

I think it works because my devices connected with Ethernet to it never have issues

Have you replaced the connection between the Modem and the Router? I just feel that it isn't right to buy new things even though you have something that worked before and now it doesn't. :/

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

Here is some general knowledge that I know about routers so hopefully it's correct knowledge. :)

Usually routers with more bands on them produce longer ranges for wifi.  The 2.4Ghz channel on a router is for longer range but slower speeds.  The 5.0Ghz channel on a router is for a shorter range but faster speeds.
