Pretty tough algebra

Sorry for the multiple algebra questions, but they're just getting harder and harder ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Here's the question:

 

The function g is given by g(x) = |x-k|. Given that g(2) = 5, find the possible values of k. Hence, determine the possible values of g(1).

Very tough one this time and I'm getting confused every time I make it halfway into the calculations. Help me, please!

here's the solution if you give up:

just like last time, substitute x with 2 to get

|2-k| = 5

2-k = 5 OR 2-k=-5

k=-3     OR k=7

 

and g(1) is

1+3 = 4 OR 1-7=-6

Using algebra has been ages. Let's give this a shot:

 

5 = 2 - k or 5 = -2 + k

which would make k = -3 or k = 7

 

g(1) = 4 or -6
