Asus Z170 AR and i5 7600k problems

A few years ago I sold my gaming rig and got out of gaming in general but since then I've wanted to get back into it. So today I went to a local micro center and picked up a 7600k with an Asus Z170 AR motherboard and set it up with my other parts. So I finished putting it together to run into this problem - it turns on but I get no signal to the monitor. I've tried a bunch of things and nothing has seemed to work. Is it because the board isn't a Z270? one of the employees said I could get it running but it would just need a bios update to make it run smooth. Anything would help i just want to see if you all know anything before I make a trip back to micro center. Thanks

to support Kaby Lake, the mobo needs a BIOS update

did you do the BIOS update? if not .. you need a SkyLake CPU, the fellas at MicroCenter could help you
