Purchasing Laptop From Staples

Hey LTT,

A friend of mine has asked me to help him pick out a laptop. His requirements are that he'd like it to be able to play WoW and Overwatch, and somewhere in the $700-$800 range, but the catch is that it HAS to be from staples because he has a $400 gift card credit through work.

Below is a link to a laptop hes he's looking at that is on sale or something. What do you all think?

Thanks!!

Any chance you can find something with a dedicated graphics chip? Even a 1050 or something would be better than the integrated intel one.

that thing has no GPU so gaming will be crappy on it.

Also, its an HP. Stay the hell away from consumer HP laptops.

When in doubt, re-format.

I don't know much about AMD producst, especially not in laptop form, but I would think this would provide a better gaming experience than the intel 520 that the other laptop had.

Also, I prefer Lenovo over HP anyway.

When in doubt, re-format.

Oh that looks perfect! What did you mean by wait for the update?

Dell refreshed it with Kaby Lake and a 1050. It's the same price 800USD and more for upgrades. It should be on soon.

Personally I wouldn't really recommend the new Inspiron, though. The new Inspiron uses a very poor quality TN 1080p display (there are good TN displays but most laptop ones aren't), rather than an IPS 1080p display like the 7559. If you want a GTX 1050, I would wait for the Acer VX 15 or Lenovo Y520 to become available, which both have IPS displays, or going $900 for the a MSI GL62M which has an IPS display and a GTX 1050 (but isn't available at Staples at the moment).

Is this confirmed yet?

The specs manual: http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_inspiron_laptop/inspiron-15-7567-laptop_reference guide_en-us.pdf

Lists the viewing angles for the non-touch FHD as "40/40/10/30" as opposed to the "80/80/80/80" for the touch FHD or the touch UHD (which, in addition, is unconfirmed whether it is true UHD or not).

At least in the USA on Dell.com, all I'm seeing are the FHD anti-glare (TN) ones, and the UHD IPS one (which I recommend to hold off from until we know it's true UHD) And in particular for OP's case, it needs to be available at Staples, not just Dell.com.

But if the FHD touch IPS is available, I say the laptop's actually a great choice!

I remember reading that OW can run on HD 4000 graphics, WoW also isn't that demanding of a game.  I think they'd run on integrated graphics, but it's not desired.

This Dell should be able to, but he'd also have ot use some out of pocket cash to get it.

This Dell should be able to also

This Acer also.

Maybe this Lenovo?

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.
