Posted January 14, 2017 So before you start screaming WAIT FOR ZEN, I am. I already have a fx-6300 and want to upgrade, but on a budget. I don't want to have to buy a new am4 mobo and ddr4 ram on top of a new zen CPU. SO, assuming that fx prices drop after zen is released, could I pick up a 8350/9350 and more importantly would it be worthwhile. Or is it just too old and would start showing its age and I'd end up upgrading everything again anyway and have wasted more money overall? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/722754-buy-amd-fx-cpu/ Share on other sites

I doubt i'd be upgrading any time soon otherwise if you wont be upgrading anytime soon, its better worth to switch to intel / zem the most powerful fx, the 9590 cant match the modern i5s, so, when in the future you'll need the horsepower of an i5/i7, youll have to switch all the money you spent upgrading your fx 6300 to other fx's would be wasted in summary: on the whole, you'll save money by switching to intel / zen now if (you want to reply) { USE THE QUOTE BUTTON } else { DONT } Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/722754-buy-amd-fx-cpu/#findComment-9199164 Share on other sites
 Posted January 14, 2017 Had a 6100 @ 4.1ghz, swapped a c2d laptop for an 8300 currently clocked all cores @ 4.2ghz. Real world performance difference was kinda meh. Try overclocking it, i got my to 4.8 easily back when i had it. Magical Pineapples
