Do I need 6850k for SLI?

I want to build a gtx 1080 sli setup but do i really need the 6850k with 40 pcie lanes or can a 6800k with 28 pcie lanes do the job? Thanks for the help

not unless you plan on having a bunch of other component that require pcie lanes other than your gpus. realistically you only need 16 pcie lanes to run 2 modern gpus in sli.

get a modern i7 like a 6700k for sli. if you need sli plus some extra lanes go to x99 and get a 5820k.

You dont need either, you only need a total of 16 lanes (8x for each) to run SLI, Intel's mainstream chips have 20 (Or 24 with Z270). Just get a 7700K, that will be fine (Unless you need the extra cores for rendering or something).

What if I plan on streaming and gaming at the same time and I bit of video editing 6800k would be a good choice right?

6800k is not really worth it get a 5820k.

its pretty poor on the price to performance. tbh if you wanted an 8 core i would wait for zen to come out and see if that's good or intel lowers their price on their 8 cores.
