At what price would you seriously consider buying Zen? (Poll)

Assuming the relative prices are consistent against Intel (4-core is as cheap/expensive for a 4-core as the 8-core is for an 8-core)...

Since AMD is still refusing to release Zen's prices, I've become curious what the general opinion is here on the forum. This is of course assuming it really performs as well as they've shown.

I'm hoping for $700, but I'd honestly probably buy it at $800.

EDIT: Come on, really guys? Less than half the price? Who do you think does their R&D, wizards?

750-850 I don't get the people who said less than 700. Why would AMD throw themselves in a hole if Ryzen is something that might bring them back up if they price things correctly?

So far the poll looks terrifying.

Anything, literally anything....Bulldozer needs to go and Intel need a real kick in the teeth to get some serious development for IPC improvements.

Is it supposed to be so expensive for these new AMD CPUs?

Guessing $800 for a CPU?  Yikes that's pricey!  ?

For a modern 8-core. Intel's offerings are $1000.

Fair point, though I believe I was explicit enough for people to know what I'm talking about.

True, true. I'm a poor college student so it would have to be really cheap for me to want to buy it.

Well that's why I said if the relative prices are consistent. You'd probably be looking at the 4-core.

EDIT: I just realized I slightly misunderstood your point, so if you mean Zen in general, my comment is irrelevant.

Godoka that's a lot.  You could be most of the way to a decent computer for that much...

I have an itch to build computers because it's fun even though I have no need for them.   It's hard sometimes to stop myself from raiding my savings to buy parts. >_>

That's why I'm so excited for Zen, the possibility of getting a good 8-core for less than $1000~

I said "the 8-core" in my OP, but Zen could very well have a few different 8-core chips that are binned or have different features of some sort. Regardless, I figure that saying "the 8-core" generally just makes people think of the top-end part.

Well my rig is already expensive enough as it is which is in my profile, it's more of doing a full platform upgrade that would be expensive. My rig is ITX which I'm not sure will be supported by the high end which would require a new case as well as a new CPU/mobo. I've been thinking about getting a 6700K or 7700K since I don't really have an excuse to opt for anything higher core count other than epeen purposes.

500 bucks and my next build is AMD, 600 bucks and Intel it is.

Will have a Be Quiet 900 Pro case that needs guts.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I doubt I could justify paying that but if there ends up being a cheaper Zen CPU I'd consider it for a side project perhaps.

Do you want an 8 core for a particular use?

Is a Z270 motherboard needed or helpful if getting a 7th gen Intel K CPU?

Or would a Z170 still be able to properly make use of a 7th gen CPU?

As long as the Z170 board received a BIOS update to support Kaby Lake, it will work fine.
