So, I'm planning a budget PC build and so far, I have a decent parts list down, but I've been kind of conflicted about a particular choice. I cant decide whether to go with an Intel or AMD CPU. All my computers in the past decade have been Intel based, yet for this build, since it is supposed to be a step up from my current PC, I'd like the CPU I use be able to surpass the Core i7 quad core 2.6 GHz CPU in my Macbook. If I choose an Intel CPU, the total cost of the build goes waaay way up compared to if I use an AMD cpu.

That said, since I've never used an AMD CPU before, I'm not really sure what to expect. From what I've read, many benchmarks and reviews say they run hot, and can't take advantage of Intel exclusive technologies such as hyperthreading. However, what I've also read is that the overclockability is really good, though thermals may or may not limit this.

Intel CPUs however, have good thermals, are generally reliable, and have the advantage of hyperthreading. The price per performance seems really poor though, I'm having a really hard time justifying a cpu in the $200-400 CAD price range, when an AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor is only $94 on Newegg.ca right now.

So anyway, that being said, I'm really not sure. Here's my parts list, which I'm quite satisfied with, but I'd still like some advice before I commit to anything. Thanks to everyone in advance!

Dont buy any of AMDs current CPUs, they are very old and outperformed by Intel and Zen is just around the corner.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Cores and gigahertz aren't everything. Current AMD CPUs have horrible ipc, and so their single threaded performance sucks. You're much better off with an Intel CPU until Ryzen is released.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
