Hey guys, sorry if tech support/problem solving isnt allowed here. you guys are just the smartest and best community here for anything PC related.

I have a prebuilt rig by Microcenter/Powerspec. The main specs are MSI X99 gaming 7 S, and i7 5820K. I have a 3 year/48 hour turnaround repair plan with them but havnt brought it in for this issue because it's weird and hard to replicate consistently.

Often through-out the day Especially when playing back an intense project in my Audio workstation DAW, but also just randomly with normal usage, my usb devices with just "re-initialize". It's the only word I can find to describe this. They become unresponsive for 1-2 seconds randomly, and act like they were unplugged and plugged in again. For instance, when this would happen with my G600 mouse plugged in, it would freeze for 1-2 seconds and then when it came to, it would go back to the first profile i have saved on the mouse ( which is what happens if i were to physically unplug it and plug it back in). This also happened with my K70 RGB LuX, and also with my external audio interface, causing audio freezing for 1-2 seconds just like all other usb devices.

what's weird is that it almost exclusively happens only with USB 3.0 ports. My rig has 8x 3.0 ports and two 2.0 ports. It has forced me to plug all crucial stuff like mouse/keyboard/audio interface into usb 2.0 ports, which is annoying. Hard drives seem unaffected by this though when plugged into 3.0 ports.

My usb 3 is run by "ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller" I have reinstalled my usb3.0 controller drivers, and updated them to no avail. So i just don't know whats the issue. This has been such an annoyance for a while now. I just havnt went to microcenter and left it for service because it's an issue you would only notice when using the computer for maybe 30 min-2 hours nonstop doing all kinds of things to notice.

anyone here experienced something like this before? edit: I read somewhere that usb port issues could be a power issue, something with chipset giving enough power? i dont know. I do have a ton of usb devices plugged in. but i have a beefy 1000W PSU so...

Find intel chipset USB 3.0 ports and use those, I've had a similar issue with asmedia 3.0 ports before and I've just learnt to use USB 2.0 for my KB and mice while using intel's USB 3 for my sound card and everything else (as I only have 2 USB 2s anyway) :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

hold up, so ur saying I can use intel drivers INSTEAD of the asmedia drivers for my usb 3 ports?

to be honest just reinstall windows and that should fix all software problems. if the problems still persist then its a hardware problem.

if you have a spare drive you may want to just try installing a fresh install of windows on that drive and see if it fixes the problem since reinstall all of the drivers isn't really that feasible otherwise

some of the usb 3 ports could be intel ports that come from the chip set you'll have to check your manual though

omg thats such a good idea. Yeah i have so many drives laying around. A bit time consuming but It should show me if it's software or hardware problem

All i have done is rewired sata cables and cpu power cable once or twice for cleaner routing, and i take out all the fans and fans off H100i radiator once a month for dusting and vaccuming.  I might install windows on a spare drive like someone mentioned in this thread. to see if it happens on a fresh install. see if its software or hardware.
