Minimum cpu needed for 6400x1080

Go to solution Solved by samocamo123,

I would recommend using your i5 4460 for awhile and seeing how it does before trying to upgrade.

so I'm going to set up a triple monitor rig, adding parts to my current rig, so I'm getting some more ram (16gb) and a gtx 1070, and a case and stuff. so my question is, what CPU would be the minimum to drive that resolution. i have a i5 4460 now, so lga 1150, i would love not to have to, but i think it might be a bottle-neck. Thanks!

think i will do that! i just wanted to see if anybody was like "oh no you need an i7" or something

You may end up needing an i7 but it would be worth it to just try your i5 out before making a decision.

i think a i7 would help with pushing out higher frames. also i5 will bottleneck the 1070.

K, I've seen mixed feelings about whether the bottlenecking is there or not, some said yes, some said no, so I figured It might a little in some games, but not much since I'm pushing a higher resolution.

yes it does bottleneck a 1070 that's for certain, some bottleneck is more noticeable than others. running such high resolution you should try to get a i7 4770k.
