I've just overclock'd my partners CPU to 4.6GHz it's a 5820K and I've been told to back it off from the 1.37 V-Core but I've personally got my 5960X running at 1.4 on the V-Core and it's running all sound and stable.

Would like some proper tech savvy peoples opinions rather than some who may not know what they're doing this forums always been great for advice.

Also to note it's stable.

I don't think 1.37 is that much for Haswell-E as long as you can cool it

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Computer having a hard time powering on? Troubleshoot it with this guide. (Currently looking for suggestions to update it into the context of <current year> and make it its own thread)

It's not going above 70c so I'd say the cooling is working fine for it.

Yeah nothing below 85 would compromise stability or longevity.

score is right where it should be.

Volts is pretty devastating though. 4.6GHz 1.3V is average enough. Anything lower is pretty meh.

At least it's actually overclocked though.

How'd you mean volts pretty devastating? I'm wondering what to do to get it stable at 4.6GHz under 1.35V

4.6GHz and 1.3V is average. Nobody wants average. 4.5GHz at 1.3V is worse than average.

Always aim for 4.6GHz preferably under 1.3V. Means higher clocks shouldn't be completely off the table.

Ooh I don't care about that kinda thing, It's not my PC and she only uses it for light gaming and stuff, I've built her it out of left over parts in the property I live.

My 5960X is fairly above average 4.8GHz I'm hitting on mine.

You've been really lucky with your 5820K though 4.7GHz at that voltage..

It's not bad for a retail non-binned processor.
