R9 390 Crossfire

Hey guys i need your advice , from reading the posts before i understood that in order to do a crossfire my R9 390 i need another card with the same vram (8GB) , but which modules of R9 that you know of should i look for ? only R9 390 ? or r9 290x or 390x ?

 

when you will answer this question i will ask another one , but i wanted to begin with something...

what about 390x ? and 290x ? they use the same chipset if i am not wrong

Yeah, you can, but I don't think 8GB 290s were very common.

Also, you might lose out on the higher clock of the 390.

290s were also commonly used for mining so they might be pretty burnt out.

That's what I'd do, yeah.

Why do you want to do that though? What monitor do you have?

I have 2 monitors for now , but old ones , because the card is out of stock i want to buy it because it's much cheaper right now , in order to :upgrade" my R9 390

Yeah but if you have 60hz monitors you'll see no improvement.

You'd have to check on a game to game basis for what you play.

But if you have a 60hz monitor, you can't see over 60fps anyway. So. Why waste the money?

first of all if i will buy another card i will consider replacing one of my monitors , so it make sense... and second it will boost my card so i will be able to play the latest games without any hussle

I think your CPU will bottleneck your set up long before your card will.

That card easily gets near 60 fps at 1440p on most titles.

I really think you'd be better off not upgrading, and just waiting for the 490 or 590, then buying one of those, which will likely get the same performance as the 390 in CF.

@xXxSourcexXx I use r9 390's in crossfire and from personal experience im going to have to say get a solid single gpu like a 1080 or wait for a vega card if it has to be AMD.

Getting a second 390 at this point is a bad deal, unless you are REALLY strapped for cash then try to get a used one on the cheap.

Any game you think you cant run now with 1 gpu wont run with 2 if there is no crossfire support.

 

I myself will be waiting for Vega but only because i have a monitor i love with freesync or i would have gone with a 1080 in an instant.
