Yes, kabylake will work on z170 boards, however, a BIOS update may be needed.

You will lose features, not a good option unless it's just a filler.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

wouldnt i get the same features as skylake? and just the benefits of a new generation cpu such as clock speeds and such and maybe the decoding for 4k video?

Kabylake has more lanes to offer to things like SATA and M.2. That means more devices can be plugged in. There's also Octane, and some still unstudied improvements in color accuracy. No guaranties but enough so I wouldn't put a Kabylake in a Z170.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

What board does everyone here recommend for the Kaby Lake?

I'm finally upgrading after years. On a budget so I should probably just buy the skylake but the kaby is only $30 more at my micro center so why not.

ASRock has the best boards on a budget for Kabylake right now.

Any specific boards I should look at? Other wise I'll probably just find the least expensive.

Makes sense that not all feature would work,  but with a bios update I'd think it'd work,  will wait for some reviewer to see what happens
