I have recently gotten my first job at a local fast food joint, and I would like to start planning out my next build.

So far this is what I have in mind: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mR4Knn

- i5 4590

- XFX RX 470 Triple X OC

- 16gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600mhz ram (owned)

- Gigabyte B85M-D3SH

- Cryorig C7 cooler

- 1tb Western Digital Blue 7200rpm (owned)

- 120gb SanDisk SSD (owned)

- Corsair Carbide 88R

- EVGA 600 watt bronze (owned)

I can salvage a lot of parts from my current system (one my dad gave me) so that can cut down costs too. If I were to buy everything new (except an OS, I can transfer the license) it would cost about $800

With the parts I have already, (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rvZkqk) it costs around $500. Not bad in my opinion. I could ditch the Cryorig C7 since I won't be doing overlcocking, but I don't know.

Or should I just upgrade my current system (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YZ2tkT)

- FX 6300 OC'd to 4.0ghz

- Zalman CNPS8000B cooler

- GTX 750 Ti FTW

- 16gb Crucial Ballistix

- Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

- 120gb SanDisk SSD

- 1tb WD Blue 7200rpm

- EVGA 600B PSU

- No name generic case

But my old system (FX one) is slowing down a lot, especially noticeable as framedrops in games. I'm not sure if that's the GPU or CPU bottle necking the system.

I play a few AAA games, like Black Ops 3 and Battlefield 1 and Dying Light but I also have my fare share of casual games like Rocket League, L4D2, CS:GO, and Warframe (not really casual but easier on hardware than AAA games)

I get around 55-70fps low on Battlefield 1 and Black Ops 3. In the other games, I can max out settings and get a good 60+. But there are frame drops.

So is it time for a new system all together or for a new GPU? NOTE: resetting my PC did help a bit with frame drops, now they occur about half as often.

**EDIT 1**

So far, drop a case and cooler, go down to H81M, and get a 4gb RX 480

Savings: around $80ish

drop the C7 and get an rx 480 red dragon, the stock cooler is enough for the 4590.

I've done some research, and I don't see a tangible benefit from upgrading to a RX 480. Especially with the games I'd be playing. I would however get the $200ish XFX RX 480 RS 4gb if I had the money

the rx 480 would be 20% better in performance compared to the rx 470.

I'm not gonna deny that, but I really don't have the money

I know I could work a bit longer, but my current PC is degrading. I would ideally like a solution do said degradation or a new PC ASAP

than why did you get a C7 instead of the stock cooler? dropping it and getting the 480 would save you around $7-9 bucks.

It's a cheap cooler and a good one

its meant for small form factor cases, not big towers like these. you don't need it too, the stock cooler is good enough.

@herman mcpootis already told you how: don't get an aftermarket CPU cooler. use the stock cooler. that gives you an extra 30-40 bucks to play around with. easily enough to step up to a 480 4GB of your choice.

You can always buy the C7 (or some other cooler) down the road in a month or two or whenever you have the money. its cheap and easy to throw a CPU cooler in afterwards, whereas upgrading a GPU tends to be quite a bit more expensive as you usually lose a bit of money on the resale value of the old GPU.

So far, this is what the build is going to look like.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8XJsM8

I could even ditch the Carbide case and save another 50 bucks. Sure my current case is a POS, but it can fit a Micro ATX motherboard

without the case, it costs about $470

So should I build new and spend $470 or save another $200 and just get a new GPU?

**EDIT** I believe there is a limit on hardware changes in origin though, so maybe just build new

if you have the money i'd say get the i5 and 480, the fx6300 isn't good for games anymore and the i5 will do much better.

This is personal preference, but I would drop the case, and since my current case has USB 2.0 front, I could even go H81M.

I would like to keep the i5 4590 and I saw the popular youtuber JayzTwoCents make a video on how the 8gb model of the XFX RX 480 was by far the best one he tested so I would go with the 4gb model, worth the $10 more

the XFX rx 480 jay reviewed was the GTR variant, not the RS. they're quite different in terms of performance IIRC. you won't notice much of a difference between the 2 i5s, so i'd recommend you go for the cheaper 4460.

The amazing one that Jay tested was the XFX RX480 GTR, not the one you put in your list. Just a heads up.
