So I was given a few old Maxtor 40GB HDDs, any neat projects I can use them for, or should I just pitch them? They are all bad AFAIK, and even if they weren't, IDE and 40GB isn't worth it.

I've seen the windchimes and pulled magnets before, I just looked into it a little bit and found a couple more such as turning them into speakers, or using it as a grinder... Any that I am missing?

Target practice.

Target practice, coasters, clocks, wall sculpture, take the platters out and go around to your local restaurants and use a platter to make all the wonky tables level, use them in a scam selling stuff on ebay (take a pic of something, send the hard drives so the package has weight to it to seem legit), throw them at door to door salesmen who come to your house, throw them at people you don't like, get your friends and have a hard drive fight, doorstop, bookends, add them to your tech collection, burn them.
