Your system is fine. Why would get an entirely new PC? You said you've got $1K AUD? Get a new GPU, SSD's. Also what PSU do you have?

Don't want to get a whole new PC. Just want to upgrading the hard drives to SSD's and thought a better CPU would help but not sure.

Have a 800 watt power supply

Depends on what you do. I'd keep the CPU unless you want overclock. Also, hardware prices in AUS are really expensive? how much would 1070 cost? You could also get A Samsung SSD.

Mostly just do gaming at the moment. A 1070 would cost around $650 AUD. Also would you suggest going full SSD or just for the operating system

Well, I'd get an SSD and install windows on that. If you've got an mechanical drives then you could use them as extra storage.

Ok would a 250Gb SSD be fine for Windows. Also is the 1070 a big upgrade from a 980 or would i not really notice.

Yes, 250GB would be enough. As for 1070, it is much better than the 980. I'm sure Linus has a comparison video.
