My opinion on gaming laptops today.

For that product to be successful they need a market big enough to cover manufacturing prices for that thing which is probably pretty expensive. Until we have better GPU Technology that will allow for something in the area of a GTX 1080 or even a TITAN X to run cool and be SUPER battery efficient there is no "real" market for laptops with GPU's. All powerhouse laptops we have now are all super thick and heavyweight, which deter the normal consumer and even some avid gamers from buying them. A laptop is supposed to be portable, carrying a 8+ lb "laptop" in my bag all day is not a good solution to portable gaming. I don't think that investing or contributing to this market now is a very good idea. We should wait until someone really gets it right.

in sum what we need to make gaming laptops more mainstream is:

1) cooler and more efficient GPU's

2) better battery technology

3) a design that is thin, lightweight and practical.

feel free to contribute your own opinions.

I think you may have missed something from the pascal lineup of GPU's.... There aren't any M parts.... The pascal gaming GPU in your benchtop unit is probably going to be the same gpu as in your laptop, maybe with a cutdown amount of cuda cores, and a less beefy heat solution.

I know, that is part of the problem. Someone needs to get an M series GPU to preform equally to a Desktop class GPU.

While you are right on the point of Valerie being a product of the future (and it may never be viable because alternative desktop solutions using something like VR for on the go multi monitor solutions may take over before carrying around a laptop and two monitors is a viable solution),  powerful laptops with high grade graphics cards are not an issue to produce right now.  Many laptops like Razers own Blade 14, are packing very good desktop gpus like GTX 1060s, and still staying thin and somewhat power efficient.  While it may not last long under full load,  it is still solid in terms of both battery and performance. And yes,  this will improve in the future as hardware and battery efficiency advance further,  if you are just always waiting for the next thing in the computer hardware world,  you'll never be happy with what you can buy right now with new advancements and technology always on the horizon.

I said it on Youtube as well, but i don't think Razer should be aiming for gaming with this think. For reference think Surface Book:

1)It has 2 GPU'S, so why can't this thing have 2 GPU's in it, one in the monitor thing and another on the laptop, think 2 GTX 1070M on it, @slightlyjaded, those would be quite beefy, even cutdowned a bit.

2)Why just 1 CPU, why not 2 one on the Blade Pro with GTX 1080, and a second Cpu with internal Graphics.

3)Why not put additional batteries on the thing, upgrade the capacity by 7-8 hours.

4)It could be non of the above, but in that case it should be slim, like really slim.

My other point is and i agree with @E_Marks_1, it will be unbelievable expensive aat least 3000$ and another 3500$ for for the Blade Pro, i mean come on. So i think they should sell it seperately, a slim back monitor thingy to add something of the above mentioned things, and as many monitors as anyone wants.

I mean i can fill 3 monitor easily but other people dont need them they just want one more for checking stuff while gaming or putting another full display right next to their main one without switching, so i think this Valerie Project has a future, but it would require some pretty complicated workflow techniques, so i would like to see what razer has in mind for this....!!!

I saw the video as well, it didn't go into detail, I saw it as a portable triple monitor solution where the extra screens were folded within the hinge for storage  and then opened and flipped out for deployment.

Yeah i saw that too, but didn't like the idea of it just being that. But if you let it sink for a few minutes having extra screen real estate in a portable way is godsent, but i wouldn't pay that much money for just the screens, i want something to sweeten the deal, so i thought of ideas.

If you are familiar with Red cameras, their screen attachment mechanism in their latest 8K models is a beautiful example of what razer can do with it.

yeah, but running 8k on a laptop in any form is going to kill battery life. triple 1080 I could sort of see with the option to switch monitors off ( sort of defeats the purpose though)

I never said to run 8K on the laptop, i just pointed out that the screens whatever resolution it might be could be purchased and attached seperately. I just used the 7 inch monitor that Red sells seperately for their new 8K camera, the same ones that @LinusTech baught as an example, maybe someone at LMG can sport a pic or two of the attachment thingy cause i couldn't find a clear picture of it online. Personally i think in a 17 Inch laptop a 1440p display would be ideal.

as the manufacturer of your phone says, never settle. i think that there is much room for improvement in that area of computing. The products that are out there are very "half-baked". In the case of project Valerie the entire concept is very far-fetched. but to get slim high preforming laptops is something that ALL companies should focus on ASAP because it is a market that is growing rapidly, and every product in that area has given thermal throttled preformance, and low battery life.

Have you actually looked at Razer's machines? Because you can't talk about Razer and complain about how bulky gaming laptops are.

As for thermals and battery life, those just aren't things we can fix directly. They're getting better, and they're continuing to get better -In fact, thermals are almost not a problem anymore. Battery life will improve due to a lot of different things, but gaming laptops will continue to be things you plug in to fully use for a while.

-Because you actually care if it makes sense.

@Dash Lambda im not talking about razer in specific, they have some very slim laptops. im talking about the whole category of worksataion / gaming laptops.

That doesn't make sense. Even barring Razer, there are a number of options for lightweight and portable gaming laptops, in addition to the options for massive desktop replacement machines. I might be wrong, but it sounds to me like you're saying we still have a ways to go because bulky laptops still exist, neglecting the fact that small ones also exist.

"You’d likely want to keep its “compact AC adapter” permanently plugged in too, because the battery in a laptop with this much screen would probably poop out after 14 seconds. "
