Which 1080 to buy?

Nosirrath

Okay, so I'll keep it simple. I have £750. I want a GTX 1080. I can't tell the difference between them.

So you guys have helped me so much in the past I thought I'd ask once again.

I know it's probably best to get a cheaper card like a 1060/1070 and put my money towards an upgrade or something but tbh I want the bragging rights of saying "I have a 1080", sorry if that makes me a bad person or whatever.

I have a 6700k @ 4.8ghz, an asus z170 s mobo and a 750W power supply.

Cooling-wise it'd have to be air cooled but I'm looking to upgrade to water in a year or so.

As far as usage it's gonna see a lot, I'm an avid gamer and I'm going for a somewhat overkill thing anyway, I'm sick of being held back because I only got the bare minimum for what I need to save a few quid.

I'm going to bed soon so sorry if I can't answer your questions immediately but I tried to include everything I could think of and I'll be back about 12 hours after I post this.

Thanks again, Nos

EVGA cards are good, and I've heard only glowing reviews about their customer service, and places like ek make water blocks for many of their cards

I just bought the Asus 1080 Advanced and flashed it over to the Overclocked variant. Runs great. If you're ok with mediocre RGB....

So go with that.Though if you are watercooling go with a FE cause I think waterblocks for those are cheaper or at least one that uses a refrence PCB which the EVGA ones do use

I would get the Palit Gamerock, has a pretty big beefy cooler and is only £580. Apart from noise there's nothing to gain from a more expensive 1080.

Yeah I would get it too. It's the cheapest GTX 1080 too but might look ugly

Watercooling support? It's using a custom PCB  and I think finding waterblocks for that might be heard

They are all about the same. Unless you plan on liquid cooling it. In that case I'd recommend a reference version. If not then try to keep to the "popular" companies such as EVGA, Gigabyte, ASUS, etc.

You should wait for a 1080 Ti then, because as soon as that launches the 1080 is no longer the bragging right card.

Any idea when that's coming? Still trucking along with a 950 at the moment. So I'd rather upgrade sooner than the bragging rights later

Well, it seems they'll announce it at CES this month, should be available between then and mid February.

Okay, I'll hold off til then, might get me off the impulse-buy mood finally.

PS. I knew I recognised you from somewhere. You helped me when I was first making my build last April/June. Thanks for the continued support man! I have the case and SSD you recommended right next to me.
