i5 2nd gen cpus are 32nm and3nd gen cpus 22 but they both use 1155 socket . my current cpu is g840 which is 32nm 1155 socket, if i use 3570k for example in my motherboard , will it work?

Yes, a i5-3570K should work on your motherboard, but you may need to update the BIOS on the motherboard first.

The 3rd-generation processors were an update/revision over the 2nd-generation -- there was not a significant change to warrant for the socket change.

They did, however, shrink the size of the transistors inside the CPU, from 32 nm to 22 nm.

This does not meet it is completely different; same thing, smaller size...so you can fit more in the same amount of space.

EDIT: @Glenwing beat me to it about the BIOS update.

It will fit but older boards may need a BIOS update to support the newer Ivy Bridge CPUs.
