you do realize the titan black was a kepler card, and the 980 is a maxwell card, the architecture change made the performance better at a lower price point

and of course not you cant say that the 1080 is close to a titan xp, though from the rumor the 1080ti will be

I own two 980 and titan blacks, so I'm just trying to see what close means. So the gap is closer between those card then the 1080 and titan xp?

are you sure you're not confusing titan blacks and titan X maxwell (which had a black shroud)?

I'm positive, I got 3 sitting right here. Just trying to know what close means? Fps in a certain game? Some sort of synthetic benchmark?

I can't find any precise benchmark of the titan black VS the 980 in single card configuration. ALTHOUGH

I found this:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/7.html
the titan in there is the oldest titan, the titan black was equal, or above the 780ti, which is always close to the 980, and always above the 970, so yes the titan black is about the same as the 980, the only correction I should make is bring the 780ti down a notch to the 970 level

According to use benchmark

Average user bench would put the 970 3% faster then the 780, so that would makes sense

but it also shows the 980 6% faster then the 780ti

the 980 is 17% faster then a titan black

titan xp 21% faster then a 1080

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-Nvidia-GTX-780-Ti/2576vs2165

So is the margin of being better 4%?

In games is it 4 fps like the link or 10 that would separate them?

Or 3dmark scores? only 400 points separate 980ti from a 1070 but its only 300 above the titan x.

So going off the link you posted  https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_980/7.html

The 980 is better then the 970 by 3.4 fps

the 980 is better then the 780ti by 2.05 fps

Why would they not be in the same tier?

What other the other factor?

it's not just one benchmark of one game, Im following the entire review here for an example. The 970 and 980 as been considered 2 different class since release, since the titan black is from another generation, I placed it with its closest equivalent performing card from the generation that came after (which also logically fits in since it follows the "one level lower in the newer architecture" rule that most (not all) generation have

Weird as two full-fledged Fiji XT cores should be able to beat it, but if that's true then I'd add the correction to the list, I stand by the rest of the choices though... I believe it's more accurate and clear than the original list (the choices were made at stock speeds though, cause for instance my R9 Fury has the same score as a stock GTX 1070/980Ti in FireStrike when overclocked but that's not the point of the list)

Yes but they show the clockspeeds that the cards are running, if their speeds matches the factory clocks(base, boost or reported normal boost from boost 3.0 on the 10 series card from nvidia) I will be using those, the clearly overclocked cards wont be used. also, since boost 3.0 from nvidia isn't exactly the same speed on each card, they will have their clocks averaged and included besides their averaged scores
