Western Digital are my choice but Seagate are good as well, I wouldn't recommend any others for hard drives.

Hey im just wondering what a very reliable HDD is. I will be using it for my raid 0 backup and pictures and stuff.

If your using it for backup use RAID 1, 5, 6 - Stay clear of 0 if backing up precious data.

With regard to drives... Western Digital, personally I would go with RED's.

Can I use 1 hdd not in raid to back up a raid array?

Ofcourse, as long as it's large enough.

I'd suggest against putting SSDs in RAID 0. You're better of running a single big 512GB SSD.

I'm running two 120GB SSDs in RAID 0 myself and I can tell you now that it doesn't make any difference in performance, except for pure sequential R/W, which is completely irrelevant for programs and OS. It even lengthens my boot time significantly because now the RAID controller needs to initialise before the system can boot.
