So i'm building my first PC :). I bought a laptop with gtx 850m 2 Yeats ago because i switch between living with my parents every week and that. But i wanted to try to build a PC with old parts.

I have prebuilt HP with i3-3240 and 4gb ddr3. I got a good psu this christmas but  now i need a good gpu to go with it.

What do you veterans think? Any help will do.

I recommend looking for an RX 460 2GB, GTX 1050 2GB or GTX 1050Ti 4GB (if you can afford it).

RX460, GTX 1050TI or RX470 would all be pretty decent picks for some 1080p lighter gaming, another 4GB of RAM is also nice too have but i havent found that more then 4GB is needed with my LAN PC running with a GTX660, you just dont need it for the titles the card will play most of the time

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What is your budget?

It kinda depends on how much you wanna use, i would rather use a little bit more on the graphics card so it will last you longer, then save money now and have to upgrade in a year or 2.

For instance, people with 980 TI dosent really need to upgrade yet, but the people who bought the cheaper models now have to upgrade. I for once have choosen a GTX 1070, its a little bit more expensive, but it will last me longer.

Thanks for all the replies!

The problem is that gpu prices in my country is crazy, a rx 480 costs 350+ US dollars. But  older used gpus have less crazy prices. Also my psu is 80+ bronze and 650w corsair so from what i understand it can power almost all gpus. So what good options are there thats older?

maybe something like an older amd card, considering unlike nvidia amd doesn't abandon their gpu's after a couple of years. If you could get something like a 270,280 or maybe even a 290 that would be great (though do note that they produce a lot of heat)

ok so i shouldn't buy for example a gtx 680 if i can get it cheap and what can i do about the heat if it is a problem?
