Holy shit I can't read today. Ma bad. Yes. That's about right.

It's kay. :D

I need a new budget-friendly laptop purely for gaming and media consumption. I already have a rig so I don't need anything too crazy - this is just for my GF to use when she comes over.

Preference:

GPU - GTX 950m or should I wait for GTX 1050Ti?

Storage - SSD is a must!

Processor - Skylake / Kabylake preferred

Ram - 8GB

Display - 1080p

Looking at a budget of around 1,000 USD exclude shipping, with decent built quality of course. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Actually, this is better than my pick, dell makes good laptops, and has big SSD, and has better GPU for less cost. Go with this one!

Check out newegg, that's what I'm doing right now...filter down to 950M. Personally chose this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154110

This one looks good indeed. Since you're using this personally, are there additional slots to install SSD ?

The Dell Inspiron 7559 has room for another 2.5 in. drive, has a better gpu, and is cheaper than that one.

Oh, I belive you misunderstood my wording. When I said I personally chose this, I mean that with my trust and experience with different brands, I personally wouldn't chosen that one; I didn't mean I actually had that, sorry for the misunderstanding.

The OP was talking about my MSI picking, not the dell.

Yea I just saw it. Really good bargain.. Hard to trump this one on the price/ performance.

I can't speak for the MSI but I own the 7559 and it's a rather capable notebook in its own right. However I'd wait for the GTX 1050s to start rolling out. A 1050 is roughly 75% faster than a 960M (750 Ti) and it's easily one of the best budget oriented gaming laptop GPUs soon to hit the market.

I'd wait, personally. Because then you can either spend a smidge more for a good 1050 laptop or get a killer deal on a cheaper 960M laptop.

Also the differences between the 950M and the 1050 are stupid at this point. I wouldn't go for anything less than a 960M at the utmost minimum.

1050

Not that much faster. I'd say it's about 10 percent faster than the 970m at its best. But his main point is so true. Now is the worse time to pick up 960ms. Wait for 1050s to roll out.

If possible wait for the 1050 like most people are saying. There is almost no point of buying it now. If you wait just a little bit this same laptop will cost much less or you can get a better one for the same price. Or if you could squeeze your budget a little bit you might be able to get a 1060, but if it is a hard line then I would say wait.

Which is about 75% faster than a 960M at minimum. I never said that the 1050 was 75% faster than a 970M. I said it was about equal to it. Re-read my post.
