Cores or clock speeds?

I found a cheap Xeon alternative to the 5820k called the 5650 and it preforms within a couple fpa of the 5820k so I will refer to the 5650 as a 5820k because they have similar specs and more people can relate to the 5820k. If I play Minecraft would I benefit from more cores (5820k) or better clock speeds (skylake)? Im also planning to play grand theft auto V and fallout 4. Can someone help?

Better clock speed will benefit you more in almost all games these days so go with the Skylake CPU, probably the 6700K will give you the most benefit and last you the longest.

Generally higher clock speeds have more benefit than having more cores, so I'd say go with Skylake.

Most games won't benefit from more then 4 cores, you only need more cores for stuff like 3D work etc.

The 5820k can come close to the 6700k's clock speeds, so I'd go for that. However, that Xeon would not be overclockable.

It is, refer to RandomGamingHDs video on comparing the Xeon and the 5820K. He hit 4Ghz.
