Hi Guys

Lately I've been playing Far Cry Primal and Battlefield 1. And sometimes when i open either of these games and start playing on high/ultra settings at 1080p, then all I can get is  15-30FPS. If i then restart my PC and the games a couple of times, the problem solves itself and I will be able to play at a steady 60+ FPS without changing any settings at all, only restarting the system. Been using both FRAPS and Uplay to monitor FPS.

CPU Temp: Max 70

CPU Usage: 48%

Memory Usage: 78%

GPU Temp:Max 63

Does anyone know what causes this issue? And please let me know if you need any more information

My PC build:

Cpu: i5-4690k
Gpu: R9 390
Mobo: MSI Krait
Ram: 8GB DDR3 HyperX

Thanks in advance, help is much appreciated since it's very annoying of having this "Restart Ritual" everytime i want to play :P

Have you overclocked your GPU? Try installing MSI Afterburner and monitor your clock speeds to see if they suddenly get stuck at a low frequency.

You're only a few degrees celsius from the system to auto shut off to prevent damage due to thermal throttling. Try to clean out your PC and make sure there is enough room for air to flow freely through. Also, is your system water cooled? If not, you're probably getting more high temperatures through the CPU because you overclocked it (that is if you did take advantage of it being overclockable) :/

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

Thanks for your response guys. None of my components are overclocked and although my cpu temp is high and i need a better aftermarket cpu cooler, I dont think the issue is caused by a heat issue. The problem occurs even when I have just turned on the PC and gone directly into the game - and therfore, haven't had any time to heat up at all. Also wouldn't a heat issue cause crashes and errors rather than just limiting my fps?

Well what can happen is that your GPU get's put under too much stress and it will puth itself in safe mode, limiting the clock speed. If you are not overclocking I can't tell you why, but you should at least check you clock speed to see whether that is happening.
