You can't OC that board, and the PSU is overkill.

Not looking to OC, Ok, what wattage do you recommend?

Then don't get a K CPU and use the stock cooler. The wattage is fine, however the quality is overkill.

Don't get a K processor if you don't want to overclock. The "K" in intel processors means it is overclock able.

Looks a bit better. Just realized OP picked a 3GB 1060. The 6gb 1060 is better. I don't know how the RX480 compares so I cannot recommend one over the other however I hear the 1060 6gb is better. Just rumors. I don't have either so I cannot say.

If you drop to the Kingston SSD on OP's first build (Kingston) you'd save some money for a better GPU. Same for the RAM. Sticking with the 2x 4gb is fine.

That saves you about 100$ to contribute to the GPU.

EDIT:
I left another tab open with another build and mixed up the PCs.

Overkill? How is that overkill? Look at my PC - PCPartPicker

Why do you have 2 copies of windows on the same PC?

Dual boot. If one drive fails or has driver issues, it's actually really useful to be able to boot from another drive to fix the problem on the other drive. I mainly use the W7U on the SSD though. It was cheap too and it really really helps if you mess up your PC in some way. Think of it as a more useful backup.

the 480 is 10 to 15% fastre then the 1060 6 gb in dx 12 and vulkan so its worth it. The 1060 3 gb is a joke its a buffed up 1050ti.

Didn't think of that. However I would like to point to the 2 SSDs and no HDDs. :P

A buffed up 1050Ti that beats the 470.

How many DX12/Vulkan titles are there? Tell me. (Hint: It's around 20-40)

Get yourself a better power supply. The EVGA 500B is mediocre at best... not sure why people are saying it's overkill.

The Corsair CX450M/550M, the XFX TS 550W or the Antec High Current Gamer 520W are going to be your best bets.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K - 4.5 GHz | Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB | GPU: MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB | PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 | Case: NZXT Phantom 530 | Cooling: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate | Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Peripherals: Corsair Vengeance K70 and Razer DeathAdder

People are still using DX11-focused GPUs like the 770, 780/Ti, etc.

DX12 has been out for almost 2 years (released with Win10) and yet there is an insanely small game list. I'm not gonna say that the 1060 is better (because let's be honest both cards have their strengths and AMD is really doing some magic with drivers) but I'd rather have a card that dominates current titles for around 3 years then update to a decent DX12 card.

idk

Nvidia do not support 770 or 780ti anymore amd still supports the 290 with vulken.
