Can I run an RX 480 + unlocked i5 on 430W?

StayFrostyy

I'll be purchasing the parts for my PC soon, and I have a budget of roughly $300. However, I'd like to purchase some clothing and maybe some golf equipment and apparel (I golf regularly in the summer), so it is unlikely that I will want to spend any more than $300. With $300, I can grab an RX 480 4GB and an NZXT S340 for $290, give or take. However, this would leave me with the Corsair CX430 power supply I already own, which may not be enough to power all of the components necessary. I've heard of RX 480s running on 300W power supplies, but I don't want to take an unnecessary risk. Will I be able to run an RX 480 4GB and have a modest overclock on my i5-4690K (on stock voltage) safely on a 430W power supply?

Note that I could spend a few bucks less and get a decent GTX 1050Ti and a 550W power supply for roughly the same price.

The funny thing is that the 1050Ti could run on the 430W, while the RX480 needs the 550W.

Not worth it. I'd just not overclock anything until you gather money for a decent power supply.

And the 1050ti would not at all utilize the 550w. Most of those cards only draw the 75 watts from the slot! Go with the 480. No decision there really.

No need. cx 430w is still an ok psu for the job.

My 1070 and 6700K both running full throttle don't break 400w, so you should be fine. Be weary though of off brand PSUs, they can perform less than ideal right out of the box (if you are going for one).

Cheers, and happy golfing :)

I'm using a Corsair 430W power supply with 80+ Bronze efficiency so I should be good. Thanks!
